Pour Point Depressants (PPD) are polymers that are designed to control wax crystal formation in lubricants resulting in lower pour point and improved low-temperature flow performance. Wax crystals formed at lower temperatures, may interfere with lubrication of mechanical equipment. This wax crystal cause several challenges during oil extraction and pipeline transport of waxy crude oils, including wax deposition, plugging of the pipeline and damage to the oil drilling equipment, which, adversely impacts pipeline performance. Pour point depressants are used to allow the use of petroleum-based mineral oils at lower temperatures. This product is used in both automotive and industrial lubricants.
