Petrochemical, also called Petroleum Distillates are chemical product derived from the petroleum. Petrochemical is classified into two classes are Olefins and Aromatics. These chemical products produced in Oil Refineries through various process such as catalytic cracking, steam cracking, catalytic reforming etc. Globally the largest production of petrochemical is Ethylene and Propylene which are the important sources of industrial chemicals, polymer and plastics industries, synthetic rubber and many more. Second largest production is of Aromatic chemical includes Benzene, Toluene, Xylene which are used as raw material in the manufacturing of dyes and synthetic detergents, plastics and synthetics fibers. The Synthesis gas produced from petrochemical is used to make ammonia and methanol which is largely used to make fertilizer and solvent respectively.
The various components of petroleum used as raw materials in the production of other chemicals products made from petrochemicals used as feedstocks in plastics, soaps and detergents, solvents, drugs, fertilizers, pesticides, explosives, synthetic fibers and rubbers, paints, epoxy resins, and flooring and insulating materials.
